The ancient one, of medieval origin, is situated on a rocky spur and is characterized by narrow streets and small houses. In the historical center there is the castle, with a square base and cylindrical towers on the sides. The building was completed in 1490 even though the original nucleus dates back to the Norman period.
Nearby lies the imposing shrine of Santa Maria del Castello, which was built in 1090 on the site of the discovery of a sacred image. The facade, with a large porch, has two beautiful arched windows. Inside there is a precious Byzantine frescoes, depicting a Madonna and child. With its beautiful landscapes and its mild climate, Castrovillari is the ideal place to spend a pleasant vacation and relax. In the park you can take a walk immersed in the nature or do sports like mountain climbing and rafting.
