Hotels Latina

Latina is an important town of Lazio, situated a few kilometers south of Rome. The city is set in the heart of Agro Pontino, a mainly flat territory, halfway between the Tyrrhenian coast and the Lepini mountains. The surrounding area is mostly cultivated and used for breeding, for the production of buffalo mozzarella, a famous cheese. In the northern part of the township there is the National Park of Circeo, with the picturesque lake Fogliano. Around the city there are several villages that still keep the original rural structure.

The origins of Latina are very recent, in fact it was founded in 1932 with the fascist name of Littoria after that the Agro Pontino was dreined. Previously this area was covered by a vast marsh and infested by mosquitoes. The urban structure has an octagonal shape with roads going from the center of the city to the outskirts. The architecture is typical of the twentieth century, although nowday remain few original buildings. In fact, in recent decades the city has undergone a remarkable urban development especially in the direction of the sea.

The province of Latina has a large tourist possibility due to its conformation and geographic position. The Pontine islands, beaches and coastal lakes, the National Park of Circeo, characteristic hinterland villages with a millenarian history, the mild climate can constitute a reason for a various vacation also for the most demanding tourists. In particular the long coastline, ranging from Astura river to the Rio Martino, is a very popular destination in summer period. In the historical center are worth a visit Piazza del Quadrato with the central fountain and tuff statues and Piazza del Popolo where stands the Civic Tower, in medieval style. In the countryside surrounding the city, you can relax in the many farm holidays and taste the incredible cook of the area.
