Taranto is the city of the two seas and it has a most active port. It is situated in the eastern part of the gulf that bears its name, between the mar Piccolo (small sea) and the mar Grande (large sea).

Also the gastronomic aspects of Taranto represent another tourist attraction in this territory. Seafood is the base of the traditional cooking and very delicious are the courses prepared with local products and vegetables dressed in olive oil, the best extravirgin one. Local produce of countryside and cheese have typical origins and denominations. Between the meat courses the braciola is the most famous plate, together with polpette, lamb and sausages. Not to forget the cold cuts of capocollo di Martina Franca. Sweets and cakes are tied to the festivities and the almond tarts have various shapes and colors according to the season.
Meal is completed with a good bottle of wine, a true vocation in Taranto province, as the Primitivo di Manduria, Negroamaro di Lizzano, Bianco di Martina and beside these valuable wines also other good qualities, as Primitivo del Tarantino, Aulon di Pulsano or the Malvasia bianca di Carosino.
