Trevi like many other Umbrian towns, because of its strategic position, had to undergo across the centuries many invasions, rapes, civil wars, destructions and reconstructions.
To the Umbrian people the Romans succeeded, and Trevi became an important centre of the Flaminia way.
With the end of the Roman Empire, Trevi which had already become Christian thanks to Bishop Emiliano, was occupied by the Longobards and entered the Duky of Spoleto (VIII sec.).
During the Middle Ages Trevi was conquered by Foligno and Spoleto alternatively.
It was politically and military instable until the XVI century when, after various dominations (Trinci, Michelotti, Sforza) that Trevi entered the Vatican State and belonged to it (except Napoleon period) until 1860 when it joins the Italian Kingdom.

In the medieval Monastery of St. Francesco tourists find a precious Gallery with paintings of Corraduccio, Alunno, Spagna, Giusto da Gand and many others, and a rich Archaeology Collection.
In the same building it is also located the Olive Oil Culture Museum.
