Spello is located on a spur of Subasio Mountain between Assisi and Foligno, in a fertile plain.
Spello is surely one of the city that preserves the major number of Roman monuments, as the town walls, the ruins of the theater and the amphitheater, the thermal baths and the marvellous town portals: Porta Consolare, Porta Urbica and Porta Venere dating back to the Augustean era.
The church of Santa Maria Maggiore, dating back to the 11th and 12th centuries, boasts a beautiful facade and guards its most precious treausure inside, the marvellous Baglioni Chapel with its paintings by Pinturicchio showing the "Annunciation", the "Nativity" scene and the "Dispute at the Temple" and other frescoes, by the same painter and paintings by Perugino.

Do not miss to visit also the Town Hall in Piazza della Repubblica with its beautiful ogival portico and the church of St. Laurence with the remains of the older building.
Furthermore the ruins of the 14th century Castle situated on top of the hill, dominates the Topino river and the surrounding hillside and valley.
