Lavagna is a beautiful seaside resort that overlooks the Gulf of Tigullio, in the province of Genoa. The town stretches along the sandy coast at the mouth of Entella river, which separates from the city of Chiavari. The village is famous for being the home of slate, with which the blackboards are manufactured. The economy of the area is based mainly on seaside tourism. The modern tourist port of Lavagna is one of the most equipped in Liguria region, and it's the ideal starting point for exploring this magnificent stretch of coastline.

Lavagna was founded in Roman times but got a certain importance only in the Middle Ages. The village was governed by family Fieschi for a long time, up to the twelfth century, when it passed under the control of the Republic of Genoa. The old town is marked by picturesque homes with colored facade typical of the Ligurian tradition. In Roma street, the main city's boulevard, there are shops and restaurants housed in the old buildings. The main monument is the magnificent Basilica of St. Stephen, with the facade completely white flanked by two bell-towers.

On the coast there is the Tower del Borgo, built for the sighting of enemy ships. Nowaday the structure houses an art gallery with works in ceramics and archaeological finds of the area. The fraction of Cavi di Lavagna is a typical seaside village with many lidos, bars and restaurants much frequented in summer. The city offers the possibility to practice many sports activities as wind-surfing, canoeing and sailing. Inland there are many paths through the Val Fontanabuona, to discover the natural beauty of the typical  Apennines landscape.
