Hotels Caserta

Caserta is an important agricultural, commercial and industrial town set in the Campanian plain, a few kilometers from Naples. The city is also known as the "Versailles of Italy" for his vaste eighteenth-century Palace that dominates the village. The building, which covers an area of 44,000 square meters, high 42 meters, wide 250, with 1,200 rooms is certainly one of the most important of Europe. The construction, begun in 1752, for the Bourbon King Charles III who wanted a residence which epitomises the luxury of his family.
The design was entrusted to the architect Luigi Vanvitelli which died before seeing his work finished, that was then completed by his son Carlo. All the greatest artists of the period decorate the inners.

The Reggia di Caserta has a rectangular plan and is surrounded by a wide park of 120 hectares. The central part of the structure is intended to royal apartments, to which we accessed through the imposing central staircase. In the old part we find Alessandro room, the study of Ferdinand IV and the private chapel of the Queen. In the new one there are the majestic hall of the throne, Sala del Consiglio and the private apartment of the king. All the rooms are richly decorated with tapestries, paintings representing the royal family, statues, huge canopied beds. The palace also boast a library, where they kept 10,000 ancient volumes, the Theater di Corte, a real architectural jewel, and the Museo dell'Opera.

Behind the Palace lie the garden streching along a central three-kilometer-long axis with a watercourse. The entire promenade is characterized by beautiful fountains, ponds and waterfalls. The most important monuments are the Fountain of Eolo, which has 29 statues of the winds, and the Venus and Adonis. At the end of the park there is the English Garden, full of exotic plants and flowers, wanted by Maria Carolina d'Austria.
For the rest Caserta offers the Cathedral, with elements of Arabic, Norman and Romanesque style, and the Castle, dating back to the X century.
