Vietri sul Mare is a pretty town of the Amalfi Coast, located a few kilometers north of Salerno. The village rises on a hill that gradually descends to the sea and it is dominated by the mountains San Liberatore and Falerio. Its origins go back to Marcina, of Etruscan age, and later was an important Roman settlement, like testify the recent findings of some tombs in Corinthian style and an ancient spa.
The main monument is the seventeenth-century church of San Giovanni Battista, with Latin cross plan and the large majolica dome that dominates all the village.

Vietri sul Mare is a location known to the world for its production of ceramic art, dates back to XV century. Nowaday it is the main economic activity and this work of art are appreciated also abroad.
In Raito, a short distance from Vietri, there is the Museum with ceramic artefacts from the eighteenth to the first half of the twentieth century, set in the Villa Guariglia. Another small town that worth a visit is Molina, where we can see the traditional water mills.

Vietri sul Mare is also a seaside resort, with the fraction bathing Marina offering a wide and equipped beach, centering the sixteenth century Saracen tower. In addition, the surrounding landscape, characterized by hills covered with thick woods or cultivated with vineyards and citrus groves, is the ideal place for who want to make pleasant excursion on foot or by mountain-bike.
From Vietri you can also reach all the picturesque villages of the Amalfi Coast or the beautiful city of Salerno.
