Cefalů is a small town that overlooks the northern coast of Sicily, about 70 km from Palermo. The city is part of the Regional Park delle Madonie, which safeguard the rich historical and natural heritage of this area. Its origins go back to the fifth century b.C. when the Greeks called the existing village Kefaloidion, namely cape, because the village was set at the foot of a promontory. After the Roman and the Arab domination the city passed in 1063 to Norman, who governed it for nearly three centuries. The main monument of Cefalů is without doubt the Cathedral, built by Roger II in the twelfth century.
