Capo Rizzuto is a popular seaside resort set on a hill sloping towards the east coast of Calabria. The surrounding landscape is very impressive and is characterized by beautiful pine forests close to the sea, while the hinterland is cultivated with citrus groves and vineyards. The seabed in front of the city differ from those in the remainder of Calabria in the depths modest almost everywhere, except near the rocky capes. Capo Rizzuto is part of the biggest marine park in Italy, which safeguards both the natural beautys that the rich historical heritage of this area.

This is a real paradise for skin divers, which could admire an unpolluted seabed, a submarine canyon and a rich fauna. This enchanting world submerged hides also some mysterious wrecks of old ships still loaded with amphorae and marble. At the south extremity of the park lies the locality of Le Castella, one of the most fascinating tourist destinations in Calabria. This small fishing hamlet overlooking a stretch of coast unique, sometimes sandy other rocky. The symbol of the village is the Aragonese castle, which stands on an island connected to the shore by a thin strip of land.

In Cape Rizzuto were found several items of Neolithic age and many tombs that testify the presence of inhabitants already in prehistoric times. In ancient times here there was a thriving commercial port, which also served as shelter for ships that cross this stretch of sea, characterized by insidious currents. Of the medieval age the town retains the impressive ruins of the castle and the remains of walls and towers sighting. Nowaday the locality is a popular tourist center equipped with comfortable hotels, campsites and holiday villages, particularly appreciated by families.
