Bellaria Igea Marina is an elegant city of Emilia Romagna which overlooks the Adriatic Sea. The municipality join the two settlements, which are among their few kilometres. Bellaria was an ancient fortress on the sea which was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. Igea Marina was born at the beginning of the '900 as a holiday village immersed in a marvellous pinewood. Together they form a well-known seaside resort with its 7 km of sandy beach equipped with hundreds lidos, ideal for relax or play sports.
Walking through the streets of the old town strike the elegance and style of buildings, which make Bellaria Igea Marina a real open-air "drawing room". The city has developed in recent years a special attention and care to the environment, as witnessed by the numerous flower beds and gardens in the village. The most obvious example is the Isola dei Platani, a large pedestrian oasis in the heart of the city full of shops, bars and clubs. In the center of Igea Marina there's Park Gelso, a wide area of 25 hectares with plants of various kinds.
The heart of Bellaria is the Cristoforo Colombo promenade, where lie many hotels and restaurants. Nearby is the Saracen tower, built in the sixteenth century by the Papal States to defend the population against the raids of pirates. Nowaday the tower houses a distinctive museum of shells coming from all over the world. Bellaria Igea Marina is the ideal destination for people who want to practice sports. Many lidos are equipped with facilities for the beach sports, the port boasts two sailing clubs and in the hinterland there are beautiful golf courses and cycling and trekking paths.
