- How to Reach Us
The hotel Mercanti di Mare is an ideal accomodation to visit the Aeolian Islands archipelago. It is set in the centre of Santa Marina, in the square facing the wonderful sea that laps Salina island. A few steps form the hotel you can reach the most visited beach of the island, walk on the promenade and reach the marina. Tickets for boats and hydrofoils of Siremar (connecting the Aeolian Islands between them and to Sicily) and Ustica Lines (providing sea links to Naples and Reggio Calabria) can be bought very close to the hotel, while the hydrofoil embarkation point is less than 100 m far from the hotel. The nearest port to reach the island is in Milazzo, from which boats and hydrofoils leave several times during the day.
The Hotel Mercanti di Mare offers nine rooms, furnished in the typical eoilan style with elements such as artisanal terracotta tiles and white walls enhancing the lights of these places. Each and every room is provided with facilities such as air conditioned, sat TV and telephone, as well as minibar, safe and hairdryer. In particular, two of the rooms are "superior" class and from the terrace you can linger on the sight of the Meditherranena sea.
The Hotel offers a bed and breakfast service, with breakfast served on the wide balcony, and is conventioned with some of the restaurants of the area, where it is possible to taste dishes based on the fish caught in the clear waters of the Thyrrenian sea. Just before dinner, you can sip several kinds of cocktails as well as taste snacks or local products.
The island inherits its name from a pond used to produce salt, and belongs to the volcanic Aeolian archipelago. Its landscape is quite varying, with fascinating mountains (the ancient volcanos) as well as coastal areas. Among the most interesting beaches, the enchanting Lingua, with its picturesque lake, and Pollara, which originates from a volcanic crater. Salina island features the tallest mountains of the archipelago, with blooming vegetation. Here the fine Malvasia wine, ideal to be served with desserts, is produced. On the island there are interesting sites from a cultural point of view, with archeological excavations which brought bronze era finds or the Immigration Museum. Salina Island offers many services to tourists, including an internet point besides banks and post offices. Buses serve all the island, with the major bus stop right in Santa Marina, close to themarina and so to the hotel. To discover the beauty of nature and landscapes in Salina, it is possible to rent scooters, cars and even boats, so to explore the numerous beaches in full depth. As an alternative, different kinds of excursions are organised.
